Year 5 – Space Project Homework

As part of our Science topic on Space, Year 5 pupils will be completing an independent project to showcase their learning. This will replace weekly English/Topic homework. Projects should be creative, well-presented and submitted by Monday 1st December.

Universal Free School Meals

From September, all children from Reception to Year 6 will automatically receive a free vegetarian school lunch each day. If you would like your child to have a different option (meat, halal, jacket potato, or packed lunch), please update their preferences via Scopay. For full details, please see the letter in Key Letters below.

Uniform

Year 5 pupils are expected to set a positive example for others through their behaviour and appearance. This includes wearing the correct school uniform and PE kit at all times.

Please note:

Only stud earrings are permitted (no other jewellery, except the Sikh Kara).
Smart watches and large hair bows are not allowed.
On PE days, stud earrings should be removed and a sweatband must be worn over a Kara.
Long hair should be tied back or plaited for health and safety reasons.

PE Days

Our PE days are on Monday and Wednesday.

Year 5 Swimming will be on Wednesday afternoons for 4 weeks (10^th September - 1^st October).

Children must come to school dressed in full PE kit on their PE day.

Home Learning

Reading

Daily reading is a key part of your child’s learning. Please support us by encouraging your child to read daily and establish a regular routine at home, including limiting screen time and online gaming during the school week.

We provide time during the school day for children to change their books as they finish them, helping them develop independence. It would be helpful to remind your child to bring their book to school each day.

Homework

Year 5 homework will include daily reading and spelling practice. Weekly tasks will include either:

Writing or grammar/punctuation
Mathematics activity based on the learning covered throughout the week
Some weeks we will include topic related homework, which will replace the English task

All homework will be set on a Friday. This should be completed and brought into school by the following Friday.
