Starting Reception at Marlborough - September 2026

Starting school is a significant milestone, and at Marlborough Primary School, we ensure that every child’s transition is smooth, well-supported, and positive.

For children beginning Reception in September 2026, we provide a structured induction process designed to help pupils settle confidently, develop early friendships, and engage fully with their learning, helping children develop early skills in literacy, numeracy, and social confidence from day one.

Beginning the Marlborough Journey

Families new to Marlborough are invited to get to know the school and staff through a carefully planned transition process. This will happen once a place has been offered and accepted. These sessions happen ahead of Induction Week and are designed to help children settle confidently and prepare for starting school.

This includes:

  • Stay & Play Session: Children can explore their classroom, meet staff, and begin familiarising themselves with the school environment

  • School Readiness Meeting: Parents receive guidance on how to support their child’s transition to school and what to expect in Reception

  • Individual Parent–Teacher Consultation: A one-to-one meeting with your child’s class teacher to discuss their needs, share important information, and build a strong home–school partnership

  • Induction Week: Shorter school sessions to help children settle, build friendships, and gain confidence before starting full-time

Following Induction Week, all Reception pupils attend full-time from 8:55am–3:30pm, and the  wraparound care will then become available at Marlborough Minders if needed.

  • Our Free Breakfast Club is available for all children in Reception to Year 6 from 8:25am, providing a healthy, calm start to the day once your child is in school full time.

Supporting Families Every Step

We prioritise each child’s wellbeing, ensuring they feel safe, valued, and supported. Families receive guidance on uniforms, lunches, online systems, and regular newsletters to stay connected with their child’s learning once you have accepted a place with us.

For parents needing childcare, Marlborough Minders provides a safe, caring environment:

  • Morning Care: 7:45am–8:25am

  • After-School Care: 3:30pm–6:00pm

Spaces are limited, so early registration is recommended.
