Emergencies & School Closure
The School will make every effort to remain open whenever possible, as we are mindful of our obligations to pupils and their parents/carers. However, in exceptional circumstances, it may be necessary to close the School. These may include:
-
Very poor weather conditions
-
Loss of heating, electricity, or water supply
-
A medical epidemic
-
Other incidents that the Headteacher considers could endanger the health and safety of pupils or staff
Any decision to close the School is made in line with our statutory duty to safeguard pupils and staff. The Headteacher is responsible for deciding whether the School should close, either before or during the School day.
If the School is forced to close, parents/carers will be notified as soon as possible via:
-
Text message
-
School website
-
Email (where available)
In the event of an early closure, parents/carers will be contacted to make arrangements for pupils to be collected safely. The Local Authority will also be informed of any unexpected closure.
The safety of pupils and staff is our priority. When deciding whether to close, the Headteacher will consider travel and road conditions, as well as public transport safety. Parents/carers are encouraged to check the School website before travelling to avoid unnecessary journeys. Please ensure that your contact details with the School are kept up to date.
Please avoid telephoning the School during closures, as this may prevent urgent communications from getting through. We will make every effort to keep parents/carers informed throughout any closure or emergency.
